Going live on social media can be SCARY AF, right!?
It’s one thing to put yourself out there on stories and share vulnerable posts on your feed, but stepping out of your comfort zone and into a LIVE stream can trigger our social media fears – what if I make a mistake, live? What if no one watches?
Let’s answer those two questions briefly first – because I’ve discovered through my own market research that these are two common fears around social media. Mistakes are good, mistakes show you’re human PLUS mistakes are how we learn. And as for no-one showing up, that is even more reason to use it as on opportunity to practice, not to mention, we’ve all got to start somewhere! All of the amazing podcasters I adore, they all started by showing up to go live to an audience of a few people, sometimes no one.
But enough about the fears, let’s focus on moving forward and getting you live.

4 Powerful Tips for Going Live on Social Media
HAVE A PURPOSE
You’ve (hopefully) got your BIG purpose all figured out, but what about the specific purpose for this live? Aka your mini purpose? What little problem can you solve within your niche, during this live stream? For example, my BIG purpose is to help entrepreneurs feel more confident on social media, so maybe my mini purpose for a live stream is sharing a two-step process to breaking down social media fears.
Here are some more examples:
BIG purpose – Share & sell crystals online to the spiritual community. Mini purpose for live stream – How to cleanse your crystals
BIG purpose – Empowering busy women through personal training & fitness. Mini purpose for live stream – A simple morning workout
You get the idea!
TIP: Ask yourself: what will my community get out of this live? Make this your title too
LIST THE OPPORTUNITIES
Rather than thinking about what could go wrong, think about what could go right! Write down a list of possible opportunities this live stream could lead to. Think BIG!
FYI, in summer of 2020 I held a free live workshop on facebook, that lead to me being approached & hired for my dream job – you never know what magic you could create by putting your authentic self out there with the intention of attracting opportunities.
AVOID SCRIPTS, USE NOTES
Reading word-by-word from a script won’t feel authentic to your audience. If you need prompts, reminders & references, then prepare some notes instead.
Treat your live stream like a conversation, you want to react in the moment to questions & comments and create a rapport with your audience.
BE YOURSELF
You don’t need to act like a cheesy TV presenter just because you’re in front of a camera.
Be true to who you are; your style, your volume, your tone, your character, your words. Your audience wants to know YOU, not a fake televised version of you ✌🏻
