A Full Moon Release Ritual for Letting Go

Full Moon Bath Ritual by The Butterfly Coach

Have you heard of a Full Moon Release Ritual? Or perhaps a Full Moon Bath Ritual?

With more and more women tuning into the powerful link between the beautiful moons energy and our feminine energy, Full Moon Rituals, including Full Moon bathing, are becoming extreemely popular.

Why do we celebrate the Full Moon?

The full moon is a powerful time to reflect on what we’ve accomplished and let go of what’s no longer serving us. It’s also a time to set our intentions for the future.

As well as a Full Moon release, the full moon is also a powerful time for manifestation.

Manifestation and the Full Moon

Manifestation is the act of bringing something into being. It is the manifestation of our thoughts and desires into physical form. Manifestation occurs through the power of intention and visualization. When we focus our thoughts and energy on what we want to create, we set the wheels in motion to make it happen.

The Full Moon is a fantastic time to do this because energy of the moon is intense and can magnify our own energy, making it easier to manifest our desires. This is why it is important to perform a ritual during this time. A ritual helps to focus our intention and direct our energy towards our goal.

Why a Full Moon Release?

There are a few reasons why we might release on the full moon. One reason is that the gravitational pull is stronger during this time, which can help us to release things more easily.

Additionally, the full moon is associated with new beginnings and fresh starts, so it can be helpful to use this energy for releasing old patterns and ways of being that no longer serve us.

On a more practical level, releasing on the full moon can also help to clear out any stagnant energy that may have built up over the preceding weeks. We all go through ebbs and flows in our creative cycles, and taking some time to let go of what no longer serves us can pave the way for a brighter beginning.

What is the link between females and the Full Moon?

It’s not only women who are affected by the moon, but human beings as a whole. For centuries we lived by the lunar calendar, tuning into the moon’s routine & energy as our guide through life.

Whilst living by the moon may be a tradition abandoned by many, research into the effects that the moon has on our biology has also been happening. One study showed that manic-depressive cycles in patients with bipolar disorder oscillated with the moon’s gravitational cycles (thescientist.com).

But its females, in particular, who have been linked to the moon because the average length of a woman’s menstrual cycle seems to match the moons full cycle, therefore many cultures associated the moon with fertility.

With many women learning that their periods are synced up to the lunar cycle, they also choosing to tune into the moon as a more reliable energy and mood-gage (myself included). More and more of us are using the moon’s cycle in powerful ways to help us stay connected to ourselves, to spirit, to nature, to so much!

Personally, I really began to feel in tune with the moon in 2019 when I started learning more about her phases, not just the cycle every 29 days, but the phases she experiences as she orbits the earth. Since I don’t believe in coincidences, there was no way I could put down the shifts in my own mood lining up with the phases of the moon as mere coincidences. Not when I knew so many other women were experiencing the same thing.

I now tune into the moon for so much guidance – the Full Moon is a KEY date in my monthly calendar.

When is the Full Moon?

Full moons happen once a month when the sun’s rays fully light up the surface of the moon. The moon has literally zero natural light of its own, so when you see the moon shining brightly in a full sphere, that’s because the sunlight is bouncing off it!

The Full Moon period usually lasts around three days until the moon goes into its next phase – Waning Gibbous Moon.

What happens on the Full Moon?

When the moon is full is when the spiritual energy is highest. Think of it as a cumulative period. At New Moon we set intentions and focus on fresh starts, then two weeks later, it’s almost like a check-in, to see what’s not working and have a clear out. Essentially the Full Moon is the perfect time to release and let go of the things that no longer serve us.

“Once the full moon arrives, the waning (decreasing) moon phase begins. As the moon wanes and the light starts to dwindle, we can begin to release what’s no longer working for us. It’s a great time to reflect on what you’ve built during the waxing phase while shedding anything that doesn’t feel right. As the moon wanes, we can tie up any loose ends and say goodbye to what’s not serving our own highest mission.”

Releasing the things that no longer serve you – such as fears, negative beliefs and old habits – are key to helping you to manifest your deepest desires. By allowing these limiting beliefs, habits and fears to cling onto your energy and focus, you’re blocking the things you actually want – and deserve!

A Full Moon Release Bath Ritual

Many cultures around the world see bathing as an act of cleansing not only for the body but the soul – it’s literally a cleansing AND purifying ritual.

Apparently, we should be having a deep soak in a salt bath once a month to detoxify our body of negative energy. As the Full Moon is about releasing and shedding, a relaxing Full Moon Bath Ritual can be a beautiful way to honour the release; wash away what is no longer serving you and detox any energy that is getting in the way of your New Moon intentions being manifested.

A Powerful Full Moon Bath Ritual

Follow the step-by-step below for creating a Full Moon bath ritual, or just check out this IG video of my own Full Moon Release Ritual that I filmed for you last year.

FYI, this releasing bath could be just one part of a bigger Full Moon ritual. Your complete ritual might include other steps, such as meditating or journaling.

Step-by-step Full Moon Bath Ritual

  1. Clear & cleanse the bathing area so it’s completely free of negative energy, dirt & grime
  2. Grab a pen and paper and write out a list of things you would like to let go of, it could be beliefs you have that you want to release, maybe certain people you need to let go of, or maybe a habit needs to shift because it no longer aligns with who you want to be. Unsure of what to let go of? Try, meditating on it.
  3. Take the list and either burn it to release (safety first please) or rip it up and put it in the rubbish bin. If you have written the list in your journal and so you can’t go pulling out pages and burning them, try and do something to acknowledge releasing these things – crossing out each line perhaps?
  4. Now it’s time to create the bath:
    • Bring your usual favourite bath ingredients, such as your best bubbles or oils, your fluffiest towel, any candles that make you feel a sense of calm and crystals to purify and amplify the energy in and around the bath water. WARNING: Do not submerge crystals under water
    • Add in a decent amount of your favourite bath salts – a saltwater soak will draw toxins from your skin, and ease muscle pain, ridding you of negative energy and leaving you feeling rejuvenated
    • Adding flowers or pretty things to the tub is a great way to add some extra magic and let yourself feel the worthy spiritual queen that you are!
  5. Put on a playlist that you find soothing
  6. Avoid using any shampoo’s, conditioners and washing your hair. We’re not prepping for a night on the town, we’re shedding and releasing.
  7. Allow yourself to lie back and bathe and let the salts do the work
  8. As you drain the bath and watch the water leave the tub, image your list that you wrote earlier going down the drain with it. Release it. Let go.

Here are a few extra tips for working with the energy of the Full Moon:

Connect with nature: Spend time outside in the moonlight, or close to sources of water. This will help you connect with the natural rhythms of the earth and the cosmos.

Set your intention: Use this powerful time to set your intention for the future. Focus on what you want to create in your life, and let go of what’s no longer serving you.

Meditate: Meditation is a great way to connect with your higher self and the divine guidance that’s available to you.

Visualize: Visualize your goals and dreams as if they’ve already been achieved. This will help attract them into your reality.

Give thanks: Be grateful for what you have, and for what’s to come. Thanksgiving is a powerful form of manifestation.

Celebrate: Full Moon ceremonies are about celebrating life, nature, and our connection to the cosmos. Have fun and enjoy the experience!
